How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have more heat on its way. Just because the date on the calendar has changed over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Staying up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying comfortable too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can build up around your outside unit, particularly during the fall. When the time arrives to rake up the leaves in your yard, make sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can inhibit air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down quicker. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it can.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Set your thermostat at the highest temperature you can while still staying cozy. Whenever possible, use other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to attain that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that creates more work for it to make up when you flip it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another thing that could lead to untimely system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with regular, annual AC maintenance is so important. Our technicians will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and ensure the electric is working correctly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more. We take an in-depth look to catch smaller problems before they become major breakdowns and turn in to an AC repair appointment.
