Is it Time for Furnace Service or Replacement?

When winter hits and we start receiving calls about furnaces that aren't creating heat, the majority of them can be linked back to the lack of furnace service and maintenance. If furnace concerns are not taken care of, your system could suddenly stop working and leave you and your family in the cold. However, there are some warning signs you can be on the lookout for to know when it's time for furnace service or replacement before your system stops running.

Furnace Age

The normal life expectancy of furnaces is between 12-17 years. If your furnace is 15 years or older it's a safe bet to start furnace shopping now. Buying a new furnace isn't a decision you want to have to make in a hurry. Give yourself plenty of time to view and weigh all of your choices.

More Frequent Furnace Repairs

The last couple years of a furnace's life are when your system ends up with the most breakdowns. Start adding up the money you've been spending on furnace repair the previous two years - a new system may be more cost efficient.

Strange Noises

Have you heard any strange sounds coming from your system? Furnaces start making odd noises at the end of their lifecycle. If your furnace is turning on and off frequently or blowing cool air, it's time to think about getting your system replaced.

A Dry or Dusty Home

Older furnaces don't humidify or filter the air in your home very well. Your home may start feeling stuffy and any family members with allergies could notice more symptoms. Some other signs are: static shocks, drooping plants and cracking furniture.
