The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. An air conditioner or heat pump relies on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s sent back through your home. This liquid is housed within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants used for many, many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being replaced in response to environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. Production of R-22 will cease by 2020. Introducing R-410A R-410A is EPA-recognized, chlorine-free and ozone-friendly. That means it’ll keep your AC running cool without hurting the environment. What’s more, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are made to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system function efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for durability, quiet operation and better dehumidification, so you can stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At ACS Inc in Metro Atlanta, our cooling products can work with R-410A. If your system was installed before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is completely phased out. Some manufacturers carry alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
