Easy Ways Keep Heat from Escaping Your Metro Atlanta Home

Keeping your home warm through the Metro Atlanta winters is crucial to your health and comfort. While you may not be able to completely ignore the dropping temperature outside, there are routes that your comfort can be reached effortlessly and without fretting about cold drafts. With regularly scheduled furnace service, you can help keep all the heat from your furnace inside your home and economize on your monthly energy bills. It’s worth it to know all the ways in which heat (and your winter comfort) can leak from your home, so here are some of the normal forms we catch at ACS Inc:

  1. Lack of attic insulation – the older the home, the more out-of-date the insulation may be. Older insulation can fade faster and cause those leaks of heat, which could then mean that your furnace is running harder than it should. Examining your insulation in your attic to see if it is installed correctly can tell you if you need more insulation and keep away from potential future furnace repair.

  2. Window or door gaps – gaps or holes aren’t always obvious to the naked eye or big enough to feel cold drafts through, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t around. Weatherstripping can be an easy fix and can do the same thing as enhancing attic insulation – making your furnace to not run as hard and reducing the chances of needing furnace repair.

  3. Losing heat from the glass of your windows – hot air and cold glass are an interesting mix. The hot air loses some of its heat when it touches a cold surface and gives off the feeling of “heat escaping” from the home. Closing window drapes during the evening hours and releasing drapes during sunny, daylight hours in the winter can help reduce this heat loss.

While these might not be the only explanations as to why your home is losing heat, there is a good possibility that one of these situations could be your reality. But lucky for you, our pros at ACS Inc are here to provide you with more advice to keep your home warm and comfortable all winter-long.
