The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. A refrigerant is a liquid that is stored in your AC coils, which help cool and dehumidify the indoor air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be legal to produce because of its destructive impact to the environment. Introducing R-410A To decrease environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now engineered to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Tucker because it’ll help make your AC work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was built anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately unavailable. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at ACS Heating and Air Conditioning work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. You should also avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
